Pet Home Euthanasia

Saying goodbye to a treasured companion is never easy. Unfortunately, as pet parents, we are often faced with the difficult decision of ending our furry best friends’ suffering. With pet home euthanasia, it is possible to allow your companion to pass with dignity in the comfort of their own home. In-home euthanasia is also easier for pet parents because it allows them to say goodbye in privacy.

At Happy Paws House Calls, we offer compassionate and humane in-home euthanasia for dogs and cats in Morristown, Jersey City, Bridgewater, Oakland, Woodbridge, and the surrounding areas. Dr. Mini and her team understand how difficult this situation is and will be by your side through the entire end-of-life process.

The Decision

Knowing when the time is right to say goodbye is incredibly difficult. One of the most important things to consider is your pet’s quality of life. You know your companion better than anyone else, so you’ll be able to recognize when they are no longer able to enjoy things they once took pleasure in and when their overall love of life has diminished.

Making the decision to have a pet put to sleep is heartbreaking and is often accompanied by feelings of uncertainty and guilt. While there is no “perfect” time to choose euthanasia, there are several signs that likely indicate that your pet’s quality of life has diminished significantly. Lack of interest in food or water, significant weight loss, or the inability to stand, walk, or go to the bathroom on their own could all serve as signs that the time has come. As your pet nears the end of their life, they may also have trouble breathing, cry out or whimper in pain, or hide from you and your other family members.

When you reach out to us regarding pet home euthanasia in Morristown, Jersey City, Bridgewater, Oakland, Woodbridge, and the surrounding areas, we will discuss what is going on with your pet and why you are considering euthanasia. We will also take the time to answer your questions and address any concerns you may have. If you decide that the time has come and would like to take advantage of our services, we will explain the process and go over any special requests you might have.

What to Expect on the Day of Your Pet’s Appointment

Upon arriving at your home, Dr. Mini will meet with you and briefly examine your pet. At this time, she will, again, address any concerns you may have and help you reach a final decision. If you choose to proceed with the euthanasia process, she will help you choose a place in your home where both you and your pet will feel comfortable. Once you and your companion have settled in and you feel ready to proceed, Dr. Mini will administer a sedative. This will help your pet drift off into a comfortable, euphoric sleep within 1-7 minutes. The sedative ensures that your beloved companion will not feel any fear, pain, or anxiety.

Once the sedative has taken effect, Dr. Mini will administer the euthanasia solution, which will cause your pet to pass in a matter of seconds. In most cases, your pet’s passing is unnoticeable. We will let you know when your pet has passed.

Once your pet has passed, Dr. Mini and her team will give you and your family some time alone with your pet to say goodbye and grieve. If you choose to have your companion cremated, their remains will be taken for aftercare services. If you would prefer to handle your pet’s aftercare yourself, you are, of course, welcome to do so.

At Happy Paws House Calls, we understand that saying goodbye to a treasured companion is a painful experience and are here to help you during this difficult time. Whether your pet passes naturally or you utilize our in-home euthanasia services, we provide aftercare and cremation services and will treat your companion’s remains with respect, dignity, and compassion.

After Care

Private Cremation

If you would like to have your pet cremated upon their passing, we will arrange transportation of their remains to Pet Meadow or Abbey Glen Pet Memorial. When we pick up your pet, their body will be placed in a bag and removed from your home in a dignified, respectful manner. If desired, you are welcome to place your companion’s favorite toys or other personal items in the bag with your pet for cremation.

When you choose private cremation, your pet will be cremated by themself and their ashes will be returned to you in a personalized Sandalwood urn. You will be contacted once your pet has been cremated to arrange for pick-up or delivery of their ashes.

Communal Cremation

During communal cremation, multiple recently deceased pets are placed in the crematorium at the same time. Instead of being returned to you, your pet’s ashes – along with the other ashes – will be lovingly put to rest in a pet cemetery. This is a cost-friendly alternative to private cremation but still ensures that your companion’s remains are cared for with respect.

At-Home Burial

If you utilize our euthanasia services and would like to bury your companion at home, you are welcome to do so. Please keep in mind, though, that the city or township in which you reside may have regulations regarding pet burial. Your community may have restrictions in place to prevent the risk of wildlife and/or other pets being exposed to the medications used during the euthanasia procedure. If you would like to bury your pet on your property, please let us know so that we can review the regulations in your area and discuss them with you.

I just want to say that Dr.Mini is by far the Most compassionate, caring, attention to detail Vet that I have ever had the pleasure to deal with. Unfortunately, the circumstances that required me to reach out to her were not pleasurable as we had to put my dog down. She managed her schedule to come same day so our dog didn’t have to suffer and she did everything in her power to make a sad situation bearable. I HIGHLY recommend Happy Paws to anyone who wants a vet that genuinely treats your pet like it is part of your family.
